Some folks have done a weld with the glass in, but you run the risk of heat shocking the glass. BTW - The roller just pops off the metal pin its on. There is a metal ball on the end of the pin and the roller has a round socket in the middle.
For all the tools and rivets you'd need, you may find it's a lot less expensive to have a local auto glass shop re-install the glass once you are done. (They will have all the stuff needed to do the work.)
Very common problem - here's a good thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...w-related.html
rivets are cheap.... im sure if you tried to bolt it up it would hit on the gear plus there is no way to really hold them. you will see when you dive in to this job.
Here are some other options that you may find: http://www.emhart.com/products/POP/popset.asp
I have this model at home and have seen it go anywhere from $50 to $200. I purchased it years ago for a door project on another car and use it all the time for non-automotive stuff.
Plus, you get to walk around knowing that you have a LARGE rivet gun. Makes all the other guys jealous standing there with their little dinky ones.
