Speedometer Issue Greetings all, some of you may have seen my last thread where I mentioned picking up my 93 Z28. Well I got her home yesterday and discovered among several issues is the speedometer being off. The previous owner installed 3.73 gears which I believe is the cause. How do I go about recalibrating the speedometer, is there a drive gear in the transmission that can be replaced or is it done through a tuner?

I figured it would be a different process since it is OBD1 but I was hoping since it was so relatively simple that there may still be a drive gear in the transmission. What about just repositioning the needle on the gauge face itself? I know it won't be 100% accurate but it would be closer than it is now.
Speed sensor is not a gear, it's a magnetic sensor.
I see what your saying, set the needle so that 70 MPH is accurate, and that's all. Haven't had one apart, but I don't think that's possible since the needle must be splined (or slotted) on the shaft one way.

I believe you should be able to have it tuned... but not 100% sure... but if you remove the needle to read correctly it'll only be accurate at the speed you set it at... which will be incredibly hard because you'll have to do it while you're moving.... it's going to be different from one speed to another... I know that on my K5 Blazer I have 3.73's and it's calibrated for 3.42's so my speedo reads 45 when I'm doing 40 and about 73 when I'm doing 65... so the difference will vary....
