Default Hard Starting

Hey, for a couple weeks now my 98 SS has had a hard time starting. Its starts fine when i warm it up in the morning before work, but after i drive it for a bit and turn it off, it takes forever to start. It will crank about 5 to 10 seconds and then will barely fire up. ive charged the batterey up but it is like 5 years old but it doesnt seem like its a low batterey. If i turn the ignition on though, the volt gauge on the dash is really low, but after it fires its past 13 volts. What the hell...

A cold engine starts very easy. A hot engine takes alot more power. If the battery is on its way out....get a new one.

You can not judge a battery by its voltage. You need amps!

The battery's cranking capacity will diminish over time as the internals become contaminated from normal use. If you take the battery to a parts store, they can test it an tell you really what you have.

Well i got a new optima red top and problem is not fixed. i took the car to a friends shop and hooked a fuel pressure gauge to it and got less than 10 lbs of pressure with the ignition on and car off. with car on about 58lbs of pressure. i just had the fuel pump replaced about 6-7 months ago so i hope its not the pump. could a fuel pump relay or the fuel pressure regulator cause it to have low fuel pressure with the ignition on? it still starts fine in the morning when its cold but after driving around it cranks awhile efore eventually fires up.
