Default 2002 window motor

In this most excellent thread about window motor replacement here:

http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html

from the link in the second post

https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...placement.html

The pictures for drilling out the rivets show drilling through the inner door metal to expose the rivets. In my 2002 TA when I got the door panel off, it looks like the rivets I need to drill are right there.

So did the way the door metal was stamped out change in later years? I've got all the panels off and wires disconnected. I've got a new Dorman replacement and all hardware.

The car is in my garage and the real surgery begins tomorrow. I am almost sure I know what I'm doing. Almost.

I would never replace just a motor. Always get the regulator and motor as one piece. Is SO much easier to replace and it lasts much longer than just a replacement motor. Plus no risk of unwinding that whoop-*** spring.

there all the same. no need to replace the regulator unless it is broken.

Yeah, I think I'm looking at the regulator rivets. I think I'm going to pull the whole thing out.

After looking at things a little closer I decided to go with the shbox solution that involves drilling 3 holes and replacing the motor only.

I was successful, although it was a little tricky getting the end of the gear on the new motor lined up. Pretty simple. Now I've got to put it all back together.

Are you sure you're talking about an F-body? The regulator is a huge PITA compared to the motor. And if the window channel is still attached to the regulator, then there's no chance of it unwinding.

And like said above, there is no reason to replace the regulator unless it's bad.

You guys must have small girly hands.

I've done two of these replacements and by far the hardest aspect has been getting threaded the three or four screws that mount the motor to the door panel - it's almost impossible to fit your hands in here, and even with a magnetic tipped screwdriver, it's utterly frustrating. Finding the rivets is extremely easy if you follow the picture in that tutorial precisely. Drill the three or four holes exactly where they have them, and you'll see the rivets holding the motor into place directly behind your new holes.

And to the person who recommended replacing the regulator in addition to the motor, albeit the fact that the regulator does not need replacement...

I'll probably be changing the motors out on my new(er) 2002 in the coming weeks; I'm not looking forward to this however.
