Default Steering "play" question

My car has had some "play" in the steering since I bought it. We currently have the engine out of the car, and I was thinking this would probably be a good time to address the steering issues as well. I ment to take the car in to have the issues diagnosed BEFORE we pulled the motor, but it completely slipped my mind. What is the most common cause for play in the steering wheel? I've got about 3-4 inches of play in the steering wheel where I can turn it, and nothing happens.

Thanks!

Amanda

There are bushings that mount the rack to the k - if they are worn you could have a bit of slop in the steering. Additionally, make sure the pinch bolt is tight and the receiver is snugged down on the gear well.

The easiest way to see that stuff is get under there and look at those two places while someone else turns the wheel. Other than that, tie rods would probably be it.

Also try doing a "rag joint" search in the lt1 section and see if the symptoms match
