Ignition Lock Cylinder
Took my 2000 Z28 to a dealership this morning....after 2 hours they finally told me its the ignition lock cylinder causing the car not to start. When you try to start it sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. The security light also comes on when you try to start it. They told me $700.00 to fix it with parts and labor......Im not an expert on cars but I do know a lil and I DAMN SURE KNOW BULLSHIT WHEN I HEAR IT!!! Does this sound like bull to anyone else and what do you guys recommend? BTW Im in Houston TX, anyone know of any good shops

Sounds like a classic GM stealership. A new lock cylinder is about $40 for auto, $60 for manual (last time I checked). To have a new key cut, it's $25. The only special tools you'll need are a steering wheel puller and a lock plate remover. Do it yourself, it's not that hard.

If it's not coming on because of the security light you can fix it for $.25 http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg
