Default Piece on steering column

I was putting a new gauge inlay in my car and I had to take the plastic piece off the left side of the steering column for clearance and when putting it back on a piece came out of the column and I don't know where it goes, I can get a picture if needed. It is a plastic piece I think it is for the brights switch because now when I pull the lever for the brights it doesn't click is it free. Does anyone have a diagram or something that can show me where this piece goes?

I think you are going to need to post a picture, because there are many plastic pieces on the steering column.

Is it a long, slender piece? What you are saying sounds similiar to what happened to me when I tore into my steering column. It is to the brights. It's been a while since I was in the area but when you pull the lever to activate the brights, the plastic piece is supposed to push onto a thin, metal rod.

Look where that metal rod is and where the lever is and you will see how it goes back on there. It took me a while to see how it goes but if this is the piece you are talking about, it's an easy fix once you do figure it out.
