Default Weird A/C blower issue

Im trying to figure out what my A/C is freaking out about. When I turn it on, everything works fine. After a few minutes, the blower reduces itself to almost not blowing at all. Occasionally, it will all of a sudden start blowing again, then reduce airflow again raning from barely blowing to not blowing at all. It does not blow out of the floor vents unless i choose the floor option. If I turn it off for a minute, it comes back on for another minute or so, then starts the process again. Its blowing cold when its blowing. Im out of of ideas...? Anybody got anything or had this happn before?

sounds like the evaporator is freezing up then melting a little and freezing again.

Agree, check the charge. Does the blower motor operate normally just on vent with AC off?

When it feels like it quits blowing, are you sure it hasn't shifted to blowing on your feet? If so, then the issue is a vacuum leak.

The problem is fan speed, not door direction. If it runs at proper speed when cold, then slows down when hot, then speeds up again when it cools, it's the motor.

Good news, though. It's VERY easy to change.

That's why I asked if the blower motor is operating normally w/o the AC on. If it is, most likely evaporator is freezing and blocking the air flow. Low/no fan speed will also ice the evaporator.

One thing to consider, I had a somewhat similar problem on a 2000 GrandAm I owned. The fan wouldn't work on certain settings. Turned out to be a bad Blower Motor Resistor. Does the Fbody have one?

Yes it does have a blower motor resistor, and they typically have a very high failure rate. Defective resistor is problem you had with the Grand Am - no fan at certain settings. OP is getting fluctuating fan speed without changing the setting.
