Default Needle Stuck

my car has been sittin up for 2 weeks after the alternator went out and i had a bad battery.i replaced my alternator about a week ago and just 2day i got my new battery.the car is running fine but sumhow the speedometer needle is stuck passed the 150 mark.is there anyway to get it back to zero without taking apart the dash.i checked the fuses and they are all good.

You probably already have but try taping, banging on dash?

Common.

Take the cluster out, turn it upside down, and rotate it back until the needles fall to the correct positions. Then put the cluster back in.

i second beating on the dash.my gas hand does it everytime i take the battery cables lose.

No, this is different. When your alternator craps out with the needle over half-way on the MPH gauge, it falls out of place with regard to the electromagnets in the gauge. So, you have to flip it over so the electro-mechanical parts re-engage. The other needles work differently or are designed so this doesn't happen.
