Question Alernator: exciter wire... ???

Alernator: exciter wire... ???

.... How can you tell if it's gone bad or needs to be replaced.

P1637 Code .... Need to check the exciter wire first before I buy a new alternator.

The excitation wire is what controls the field on the alternator and voltage regulation. With a person of average skill level and tools, the easiest thing to do is remove the alternator and have it bench tested at a local auto store rather than try to trouble shoot on the car. If the alternator turns on and works properly on the bench then the problem is in your wiring or the ECM output driver that sends the signal.
