Black trim on alternator

Got a dumb question here. Ordered a new alternator and it arrived somewhat damaged. Just curious if you guys recommend I put it on as is or try and fix the places where the plastic broke off.

don't you have the plastic cover from the old alternator to put instead?

I'm not an expert, but I've been told that the black piece is just a covering for the fan to blow out (or suck in?) air. You could probably just put some electrical tape on there or cover it up otherwise and you'd be fine. That's what I would do anyway, it's not worth spending a bunch of time and money on.
