Fluid types and capacities
I have had my car for a couple years now and it only has roughly 23xxx miles on it and it's probably due for some transmission, rear end, coolant, ps fluid changes, etc... I don't know if they have ever been done, other than the oil...
Anyway, I just have a few questions on fluid types, grades and quantities. I know some will say "any oil will do" or there is no "best" oil. I understand this, however, I just wanted some options, as I have a guy that can get me all the fluids at cost. BTW I have a 99 LS1 T/A - A4, if it makes a difference for fluid capacities. Thanks in advance.

- Not sure what to get here? What do you recommend for a decent daily driver OEM replacement, rather than the GM DexCool, because I have only read that this stuff is crap and gunk’s up over time? How much does the system hold?
Differential fluid and additive
For a rear end change, I thought I would go with:
-Redline 75W90.
-GM Posi additive for rear end – 1 bottle
-RTV sealant for the rear end. Do I need a gasket, or will the RTV sealant be sufficient?
Brake fluid
-I have read that the ATE superblue is decent for a daily driver and will perform well. I believe it’s coloured blue as well for easy bleeding of the system?
- What is the capacity of the brake system?
Power steering fluid
Thought I would go with:
-Redline.. Is there any grade or type that I require? What is the capacity of the system?
Transmission fluid
Royal Purple (Max ATF)? What is the grade that I require? Isn't it GM Dexron III, or something?
-How much will I need for a change?
-Where do I get the filter or is there a P/N??
No one else answered...
I'll give my $0.02 based on my research/experience/usage on our family cars:
- 2001 WS6 with AT,
- 2002 GAGT V6 with AT.
DexCool has also been shown to attack/degrade these materials:
- nylon (lower intake manifold gasket carrier for some engines)
- silicone (lower intake manifold gasket seals that ride on nylon carriers; LS1 water pump gasket).
My wifes GAGT 3.4L V6 has suffered from this (LIM leakage both internal and external to engine).
Prestone All.
1 gallon and then fill/top with drinkable water.

Torsen diffs don't need posi additive, it's ok with or without it.
1.75 quarts.
M1 75W/90 or 75W/140.
GM gasket works best, avoid RTV.

1 quart will be more than sufficient for flushing.
Valvoline Synthetic DOT3/4.

Prestone Synthetic PS fluid, or M1 ATF at times.
Royal Purple (Max ATF)? What is the grade that I require? Isn't it GM Dexron III, or something?

Pan drop and converter flush: 12-13 quarts.
M1 ATF.
ATP gasket/filter kit part number B126 (car style shallow pan);
comes with a black fiber gasket that seals good (expands slightly when ATF wets it).
Those are my $0.02 worth.

Just one question, is that ATP gasket and P/N a GM product or is ATP a company name? Thanks for clearing up if I should use a gasket or the make your own gasket stuff for the rear end change.
B126 is for the car style (shallow pan).
At summitracing, search for ATP B126.

lol.If I have any problems with anything I will definietely ask you guys, thx.
I will search the ATP site to see if they have any distributors here and go from there.
____
Did a search and found numerous distributors here, disregard the above.
The filter seal doesn't have to be changed as long as the old one is still "tight".
Ask your local parts store if they can get ATP B126... the non-large-chain stores usually can.
M1 ATF is Dexron III compatible: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...hetic_ATF.aspx
