Electrical gremlins are highly variable. Could be $150, could be thousands. Thus, you should work with your mechanic and make sure they have a good plan and that they have a not-to-exceed number. If they work on it all day, it will cost you a fortune!

That could be your problem. Just because its spliced 10 years ago, doesnt mean they are still making the correct connections that they should. I have seen it before and it could possibly be the problem but you wont be able to tell until you get a multi-meter and check it. If you took it too a shop, I am curious to see what the problem was...
