Default Bad coolant temp sensor cause the engine to die?

So I am working on firing up my LS swap in my Typhoon and I can't keep the engine idling. I hooked up HP Tuners and the coolant is reading -38F, and I can't keep the truck idling. It just surges and eventually dies. I'm heading to pick up a new sensor today, but wanted to check if it is related to the idle problem.

I've seen a few posts where bad idle is an issue with a bad sensor, could that be the reason it won't stay running? If I give it gas, it will run, but it will not idle for more than 2-3 seconds.

Thanks in advance.

My engine will not really run with it out. It coughs, spits and backfires. Barely stays on.

Same thing that happens to my car with the gauge cluster out.

i had the same issue after my header install. i guess we had cracked the sensor and didnt realized it. My engine wouldnt idle, it eventually killed the engine while i was driving. i moved the sensor around and noticed if i held it right the car ran fine. so i replaced it and have had no problems since. im sure its your sensor.
