Well I haven't been able to do the flush the weather hasn't been the greatest.

BUT I decided to do some checking with my temp gun and noticed something strange. car running upper hose read 179 degrees.. lower hose was 174.... the outer edge before the plastic (cap side) was 194, other side was 200... The plastic edges were both 202 degrees, But the middle of the radiator was 172 degrees. Shouldn't it be the same temp or close as the outside edge?

I'm thinking I might have a blockage in the radiator...

I'm having the same problem on a 93 LT1 car. It has a 160 stat in it and has ran cool for years. It's slowly started running hotter and hotter. Idling and easy driving its fine but if you beat on it the temps go up. i verified them with a scanner a few days ago. The radiator was replaced when I build the engine 10,000 miles ago. After the temp goes up you can let it sit and idle and the temps never come back down where they are suppose to be.

The fan motors are original. I compared them to my friends 95 Z and his fans pull much more air.

Didn't mean to highjack. Just wanted to let you know I am having a similar situation.

UPDATE:

Replaced the old radiator appeared to be original and figured why not. It had a bunch of crap in it.

Removed the Coolant tank and cleaned it out with gas and engine degreaser like someone recommended and the amount of crap and crud that came out of it was ridiculous.. Put it all back together and still the same problem.

Today: Removed the RA kit from in front of the radiator and temps never went over 190 degrees. I guess I have one of those few cars to where I can't run the kit without overheating. I think the main reason LS1 cars can get away with it is the big opening in the middle of the grill, My LT1 bumper doesnt have that so all the airflow needs to come from the air deflector. I hope that the new bumper 6LE is making will help the cause so I can run it again but for now I had to remove it.

Its just that when GM designs an American made car, they aren't all exactly the same.....like foreign made cars are. So although some people can run the RA kit without having overheating issues........the slightest little difference in how the air goes through that ducted area, can mean the difference of 10-30 degrees of cooling.

But....you figured it out. Thats cool. Pun intended

Yeah the difference is 20-30 degrees. I will put it back in when the Hybrid bumper goes on and see if the temps remain the same or close with to the point where I can keep it.

The LS1's don't have any air in the 2 holes in front. The big foam bumper is in there.

The omly time I ever had that problem at speed is when I took my airdam off (threw it away and had to go buy another one).

I think most people remove them when they take the grille off. Or at least the people I talked to about airflow to the radiator have a straight shot threw the middle because the foam is out of the way.
