MAF problems

MAF problems back when i was 16 i had an 86 TA with a 305 TPI.. seemed like i was going thru MAF's once a month.. so before i bought this TA a couple weeks ago (first time LS1 owner) i asked a friend that is into GM's if the MAF's on 4th gens still acted stupid.. he said no they're way better than the 3rd gens were. ha. this car was slow as hell and i didnt even know it! i just figured it didnt take off good because of the A4, on the highway it seemed good. went and saw a friend of mine yesterday with a M6 TA and he took me for a ride.. holy crap.. i told him mine doesnt have half the power.. and he said he has driven A4's and they should be close 15mph-80mph.. so when we got back to his house he had me put his MAF on my car and drive it.. WHOLE DIFFERENT CAR. after hearing how much they wanted at parts stores.. i told myself hell i'll just buy an slp one.. after reading some threads about it last night i gathered that the bigger MAF's are sillyness.. so i guess im going to buy a couple at the junkyard for cheap and hope for the best. please tell me this wont be happening every 3 months?!
stock MAF's aren't too prone to go bad on these cars. a lot of times people will over oil their K&N filters and that can lead to failures. you could always try cleaning it with MAF cleaner but be careful because that sensor in particular is very sensitive.

ohh that must be what happened.. in the book of receipts i got from the previous owner there was one for having the MAF cleaned out, probably was never right after that. having a much better day today, went to the junkyard and picked one up for $40 and it works great!
