See if you have anything in the blower box, I've had leaves in mine before.

NBM = Navy blue metallic
You should try some of the AC Vent refresher from advance, It worked pretty well in my winter beater.

This is a common problem with pretty much all GM products. There was a TSP out about it a while back (it's been around forever.) I don't have it handy and.. well I tried and I can't find it. but basically.. it says it's caused by slight mildew build up inside the a/c ducts/internal airbox from too much moisture.

I wish I could find it..! The solution is to dry it out.. I think the dealerships had some cleaner they sprayed in there. if I find it or.. if anyone else knows what TSP I'm talking about feel free to post it.

My truck has the same problem but it's only at startup, it goes away as the compressor runs.

Its usually caused from moisture, you run the a/c and shut the car off..that moisture will just sit in a closed car and cause that musty smell.

I usually shut the a/c off and run the fan when i am near my house..and it cut a lot of the musty smell..

Can anyone tell me where is the air intake for the heater and a/c? Is it under the hood? I want to know where the air gets sucked in.

Remove the panel under the glove compartment, disconnect the electrical connector to motor, remove 3 screws - motor and blower comes out as a unit. Look inside and clean/dry it out as necessary. There's no cabin filter or anything, just gets outside air from the cowl. My guess is there's debris in there, combining with AC condensate water - that's the source of the smell. Probably see where the air comes in with the motor/blower removed.

Thanx for the reply! I took the motor out and the only thing I found was a very small piece of leaf. It looked clean to me but I could not see where the air inlet would be under the hood. I want to find it so i can spray some Lysol into it while the a/c and heater are on high. That is what I did on my 07 Civic and it cleaned it right up.

+1. I've been looking for it but it seems to be camouflaged well. (I would like to locate it without ripping things apart.

I've got to think its in the engine compartment because my summer vent air is hotter than what comes in through the windows...

Yep it comes in from the cowl. Saw a post here a while ago on how to retrofit a cabin air filter from another car w/pics showing it from the bottom - search "cabin air filter."

They sell a deodorant spray for the evap and ac ducts at parts stores. Never used it but might be worth a try

It's moisture build up on the evaporator itself.. GM makes a evap coil coating spray, part# 12377951.. It's pricey, but works very well.. Most techs will drill a small hole in the evap case, just big enough that the supplied spray tube will fit in.. Then just spray the coil coating, plug the hole when done & problem solved.

I'll look in the manual and see if I can locate it.
