dex cool proplyne glycol organic acid technology uses a really mild acid to keep calicum scale and rust down also used to lubricate water pump bearings seal etc awesome stuff get a refractometer and use it to check it also ethlyne glycol is a silicate based coolant when you mix the two dexcool breaks down the silicone molecules in the coolant causing it to gum up and fail blocking radiators, coolers and failing compnents just makes sure you keep on top of it and the whole ordeal in the late 90s was the gakset material was being destroyed by the coolant 97-98 s10 pick ups notorious for this also when this happend oil would ix with coolant and vice versa never a good thing causing sludge

BBLS1 -

One more (former) GM Engineer here that does not use Dexcool.

I'll not get into a war of words with all the KIA's here, but rather suggest that you simply do a bit of research into why a couple of GM Engineers have issues with Dexcool.

My evidence against it (Dexcool) comes from: other Engineers, Automotive Cooling System Specialists, Trade Journals, and Technician's Publications; not guys who only look at their personal anecdotal evidence.

Personally, for MY bit of anecdotal evidence, after I swapped out the Dexcool in my 'Bird for Old-school "Green" Polyethylene glycol (PEG), my coolant temps dropped 7 to 10 degrees.

Hope this helps.
