Default 305 engine sputtering while driving, need help. (Updated 3/17)

Car is a 79' Camaro with the factory 305,all original except edelbrock intake, holley 600cfm carb. Has new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.

It idles fine, but while trying to drive it, it starts to sputter and around 2k rpm it gets bad.

I have the timing set to factory specs. Could it be the distributor?

Did you disconnect the vacuum advance hose & then go drive it?
See if that clears it up 1st.

I will give it a try. I set the timing with it disconnected, this is the right way correct? I haven't worked on a carbed engine in about 5 years so im rusty with the fine tuning.

Yes Timing without VA.
It also depends upon if you run manifold or ported vacuum to the vacuum advance also to when the timing is added.
Wanted you to disconnect it to see if the vacuum advance was causing a problem with the pick up coil harness inside the distributor.
Was kind of common back in the day.

Will try it later today. The VA is run to the carb. If it doesn't clear up the miss then what do you suggest?

Ok so I was noticing that the fuel filter bowl was not full of fuel at all while the car was idling or while I was giving it throttle. Fuel would trickle into the filter and thats about it.

Could there be a clog or no vent in the tank?
