Default Delay when starting

Noticed last night that when I turn the key, there is a half second delay before it will fire up.
There isn't any sort of clicking, just silence. Then it will start right up. Almost behaves like a dead battery.Car runs fine otherwise.

I'm going to check the battery, alternator and cables later. Anything else I should take a look at? Bad ignition switch, starter, etc? Car is stock.

Sounds like a VATS or ignition switch problem to me.

Yeah,I am leaning towards the ign. switch. Seems like the cheapest and easiest to try first.

How do you turn it on? Do you just hop in and turn the key immediately or do you wait for the security light to go off?

I have done it both ways. Tonight it acted like nothing was wrong.Fired right up.Now tomorrow it will more than likely do it again and I will have to wait a few minutes and it usually starts up. Forgot to mention when it happens, all lights on the dash are out.

Hey guys,
I see there are two part numbers listed for GM and Ac Delco. The local auto parts store carries a Wells LS662 that will work, but I'm not that familiar with their part number. Anyone use the Wells brand? The only advantage I see now for the Wells is that I can just go pick it up. I am ordering both pigtails just in case I need them,so just getting the Ac Delco one may be ok since I can't really do anything until the wires get here anyways. Thoughts?

I am having the same issue. However mine only happens when the car has been sitting overnight. I'll turn the key to the on position and then to start position and wait up to 10 seconds sometimes before the car starts.

Did replacing the ignition switch fix the problem for you fuys?

Same exact problem here. I have a push button starter wired in as well which splices into the ign wire past the key switch and when I use that it starts perfectly, but when I use my key I get the same exact problem you guys have described. I've tried my spare key too thinking my main key wore down the contacts on little embedded resistor, but that didn't help. I'm pretty sure it's the switch, but I'd like to know if it fixed this for others too before I rip apart my column to get to the darn thing.

Its the switch. Mine will do it every once in a while (it sits a lot) if I press a little harder it fires right up. It's the contacts in the ignition switch at the bottom of the column getting worn out, weak, or corroded.

If you do it yourself, yes.
