Driver's Seatbelt Issue So my car was owned by a large dude before I got it and as such the driver seat is kinda beat up. The seat itself isn't too bad but the driver seat belt has an issue where it won't retract. Probably not safe to drive with, but I'm honestly just more annoyed with it because it flops out the door whenever I get out the car. Anyone know how to fix this? Do I just need a new re-tractor? if so which one do I replace? Top or Bottom? Thanks for any help |
This is really common for cars of this age. The retractor gets dirty and gummed up. (Its probably not related to the size of the owner.) The retractor needs to be changed. (They are 100% non-servicable.) Any local or online GM dealer can get you one. You'll just need to cross reference the car's VIN to make sure you get the correct one. The dealer will match up the unit to the color, body type, etc. While you are at it, I'd also replace the guide that screws in to the side of your seat's headrest. They are really brittle and it will break at some point. (It's really easy to change while you are replacing the retractor.) There's a few bolts at the retractor and a tingle large torx bolt at the floor. It's all really easy to replace - except the key is to make sure you properly torque all bolts with a torque wrench. |
Sweet thanks for the info! I think that solves my problem. |
