Coolant temp -38 degrees
Coolant temp -38 degrees I just swapped a LQ4 into my 79 impala. All went well, except the coolant reading from the handheld is showing -38 degrees. The motor is running way rich and idles ruff. I changed temp sensor but no change Any thoughts? Bad wire? Can i splice or jumper it out. What pin is the sensor run to?

I don’t know if this will help but it sounds kind of like what my ford did. The sensor circuit was open, it threw a check engine light. When I was looking on some info on the sensor it showed that if the circuit was open it would default to thinking it was a temp like -30 or -40. I don’t know exactly what the gm ones would do but it might be worth looking into. My truck also ran very rich and would barely stay at idle, it was almost acting like a idle control valve gone bad.
