Hard to Turn Key in Ignition Today when I tried to start my 98 Trans Am, the key was difficult to turn in the ignition. It wasn't locked, per se. It was just very hard to turn, but I was able to eventually force/coax it on around for the car to start. Then it was just as difficult to to turn off. So, I drove it to my local shop, but it's too late in the day for them to mess with it at this point today, so I had to leave it.
It turned on fine once I got there, but it was still "sticking" when I tried to turn it off.
What do you think this is? (I feel certain it's physically something wrong with the "key assembly" itself as opposed to a sensor or something, but I don't know what it's called). It almost feels like it needs to be lubricated. How much do think it'll cost to fix?
FYI, it's my daily driver that I bought new in '98. It now has 107k miles on it.
