Im thinking it could be a rear axle bearing. Its a whine but the sound does not get louder when i speed up. just stays constant i have a manual 6 speed 2002 ss. i have read a few things and ive heard that the pinion fastener can even be lose seems to be common. any ideas or anyone had the same problem?

It could be any of the areas. Really have to tear it down. Could even be the u joints
