My POS old blazer pops and it is because the gear is gone and doesnt rotate as it should. Only way for me to fix it is to take apart the hinge. F that for a $1500 car that is dying a slow steady death.

The bearings in the hinge are probably bad. See if you have play at the pins in the hinge. Unfortunately, new hinges are not available for app parts of the car yet (they are coming back from being discontinued) but there are folks selling rebuild kits with new bearings.
