Default LT1 Overheating

So I was going to a car show about 15 mins from home, got there fine.

When I was leaving, I had to get something at Auto Zone, they didn't have it. So I went down the road to Advance Auto Parts. They didn't have it.

So I start to head home and I'm sitting at a red light and I notice the temp gauge is climbing.

The next thing you know it's like almost at the red line and I couldn't wait for the light to turn green so I went on a red light and parked in the parking lot across the street.

I let it sit for about an hour and a half till the gauge read a little above 160 and head out.

I get about 3 minutes down the road and the temperature is already creeping up 210. I pulled over at a parking lot and called my insurance company and got it towed home.

It's got a 160 degree thermostat in it.

Thinks I checked.

-Jumped both fans with a battery, they both turned on
-Tested the fuses for the fans, they both were good
-Coolant was maybe a little less then a quart low, added coolant, DID NOT BLEED SYSTEM.... how do you bleed the LT1?

What else should I check??? Stuck thermostat? Bad Waterpump?

The car is not junk either, everything was rebuilt about 20-25k miles ago.

Well, first, water pumps don't go bad.....they always move coolant. Water pumps just spring leaks at the seal. ((((And yes, you could possibly be the one in 10 million who shear the water pump shaft, and then yes, it will not move water))))
Just take the tStat out and bolt the tstat housing back on, top it off with water and start the engine. The coolant should be flowing immediately. That's how you check the water pump is flowing water/coolant.

I would say you have a bad tstat.....it's not opening anymore.

Default To bleed an LT1

With the coolant system full, at operating temp and idling, find the two bleeder valves on the top pass side of engine - one on the thermostat housing, one one a hose near the alternator. Open both, allow the steam to escape; when coolant is flowing, close the valve(s) - done.

If, after you have finished bleeding the steam from the coolant system and it still overheats, then you (most likely) have a blown head gasket - ask me how I know...

Good luck!

Ok so did some stuff today.

Pulled the thermostat, cleaned it and threw it in boiling water. It opened.

Put the thermostat back in, put some coolant in and bled the system.

Ran it until it started flowing.

Temp went to like 180-190ish then the fans kicked on and the temp went down to where it should be.

Why did it overheat last week? I idled the car for a good 10-15 min and it ran at normal temps.

Thermostat? 2 quarts low on coolant?
