Default broken evaporator housing

Made a hole in the bottom corner of the evaporator housing/box when pulling the engine a few years ago. It's about 2-3 inches if I remember correctly. I've had it covered with duct tape, but that's obviously far from ideal in terms of insulating the evaporator coil. Wondering if anyone has had the same issue before and what they did to fix it. It looks like replacing the box will be a PITA with the engine in the car... plus pulling the evaporator. I'm thinking since it's fiberglass, I can just patch the hole?

I would patch it with some fiberglass mat and sand it and be done.
