Default headlight gets stuck sometimes?

so sometimes when I put my headlight on, then I get home turn them off the driver side headlight will stay up. if I turn the lights on and off a few times it will go down.. the other day it did it again and it stayed up over night in the morning i turned the lights on and off again and it went down. any help? I love trans am's but I hate these headlights..the guy I bought the car from told me he put brass gears in them.

also when it is stuck up I don't hear like the gears are stripped like that grinding noise..

I had this issue when my metal gears stripped: https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...ght-doors.html

If they are really bad and there is no gear engagement at all, then you won't get a noise. The motor will just spin silently.

If you can recreate the problem, open the hood, take the rubber caps off the top of the motors and try turning the manual motor ***** to see what happens.

I would suspect the 5 prong connector that connects the motors to the head lights. This is a terrible design and craps out at least once in a firebird/Trans am's life time. Unplug it and check to see if you have green stuff in yours, if you do replace it. You can get a replacement from Rock Auto.

that's why I use dielectric grease on all connectors! never had a problem with them.

I do this now, on every connector i pull apart. The best way to go, but i had problems before i discovered this wonderful grease.

I too, use dialectic grease. However, it has failed to stop the corrosion for me on this one connector. The corrosion still occurred and the grease became an awful green slime.

Yea, I think this is one of those things that takes a few years to show up and maybe it was missed in testing?

There is another thread going where a member mentioned that they went to a different model of connector. I'm intrigued by that and am looking forward to see which one they chose.
