Default Battery Terminal Corrosion

Had a smallish amount of corrosion appear on the battery terminals last season (optima red <5yrs old) ... Could this be caused by over/under tightening of the bolts? Lack of dielectric grease? Seems odd from a dry cell unless its a connection issue.

Cleaned the tray and base area up only to realize the lip on the tray has cracked. Thinking of getting the year one strap as insurance with the new tray...

Check your f-body battery tray for breakage!!!

vibration can cause corrosion as well if your try was broke than that could have contributed to it..

Yeah, THAT (the supposed impossibility of corrosion) is one of the reasons I use AGM batteries exclusively over flooded lead acids.

I guess ANYTHING can leak/corrode over time.

Yup got everything buttoned up now nice and secure.

***If/when u purchase a new battery tray assy from gm or aftermarket, it does NOT come with a new grommet for the metal overflow tube. I ended up cutting the defective tank in half to get it out from underneath...even then it takes patience.

***gm does not support the grommet # anymore

I guess you've also found out they either stopped making that grommet a LONG time ago, OR maybe even NEVER made a replacement for them.

I was going to try some of the various PCV, and or dipstick tube grommets out there as a replacement when i get around to changing out the tank.
