Default 98 T/A hatch supports

I picked up a pair of hatch supports for my 98 T/A and today, I was going to replace them. On the end that mounts to the car, not the hatch end, do you have to remove the sail panel to get to the mount? I see a rubber cover over where it mounts behind the panel. Anyone have an easy way to remove and replace, or am I stuck with removing the interior panel?

I don't think you need to actually remove the entire panel, just move it out of the way. It's extremely easy too, just 4 screws/hooks you gotta take out (coat hanger hook, screw on running board, two on top where T-Top locks in). Slide the panel forward and you should gain access to supports.

Just pull the rubber down the support and it will pop out from behind the panel. It's just loose fit in there and pulling it down will allow you to access the attachment. No need to take the panel off.
