Oil Leak
I start the car and move it up about 20 feet and take a look underneath. I saw oil dripping from, what I can tell, the oil filter. When I moved the car back it left a trail of oil to and from where I parked it, with a puddle of oil the size of a kiwi.
I thought the oil filter may have came lose so I took it to the place where I had it changed. They said it was tight in there and there was no leak any more. Seems like when the engine is hot the leak stops.
So I had them change the filter and add a quart. It was not leaking when I was leaving and I drove to work, which about 20 miles away from the shop I was at. When I parked I took another look and it was not leaking.
My question is if the rear main is leaking, would it leak all the time? Regardless if the engine is hot or cold.

The rear main leak usually exacerbated when synthetic oil is used (note: the sign of a leak after synthetic oil is used does not mean the oil caused the seal to deteriorate; rather, it simply made it obvious). One might be able to eliminate the actual leak if switching back to conventional or a thicker oil.
