Squealing from belts or pullies
I start my car and it squealing I press on the gas and it gets worse. I pop the hood and start spray belt conditioner and towards the bottom left pulley and the noise sort of goes away but comes back. Could it be my belt or a pulley? what belt would that be and which pulley is that to the bottom left? Any help will be greatly appreciated...
1. Clean all your drive pulleys with degreaser and get them good and dry
2. If you have an AutoZone belt, ditch it. Gatorbacks have the most consistent good results in quieting down the squealing. Sometimes, people get good results with the NAPA or Gates.
3. Replace idler and tensioner pulleys. Get AC Delco pulleys.
4. Check pulley alignment. Especially if you have replaced any accessories. Most especially if you have replaced the alternator. Sometimes a washer is installed behind the alternator pulley that puts it out of alignment. FWIW, alternator is on the lower driver's side, which is where you reported hearing the noise. So is the idler pulley - just above and toward the center from the alternator.
5. Ditch the OE damper. Sometimes it gets to where it doesn't sit right anymore - even if it was never removed - causing the belt to not run true. The ATI damper/pulley seems to have the best results at quieting the squeal.
