5.3 tapping noise

5.3 tapping noise What is that common tapping noise in most 5.3 engines? Mine comes and goes like a lifter but I've heard others that are like a knock? Mine uses no oil, and has 170,000 miles with no issues whatsoever, but it does have a tap at times and sometimes louder like when it's up to temperature. Any answers?

Tic Tic Tic Had the same prob with my 04 4x removed oil pan and cleaned the crap out of it it was dirty but no sludge, replaced oil pump and timing chain. Now not a sound.
04 1500 4x4 321000 mi. Can't believe how good it sounds w/mileage.
I bought another 5.3l w/125000 because of he noise took it apart to replace all the gaskets and found roller lifters so full of gunk they wouldn't pass oil, and all the oil rings were stuck to the Pistons it took days to clean. As far as piston slap I didn't see much evidence a little smoother on the sides but that's it. A friend told me someone must have used Penzoil. Never anything in mine but Mobil one syn every 3000
Oh the O ring on the suction tube was intact and still flexible
