Camaro rack and pinion

Default Camaro rack and pinion

I am removing and instaling a rack and pinion and i am a little stuck does anyone know of any links with instructions on 01 camaro z28 . So far i have removed both tie rods both nuts that hold the rack in placeand the 11mm bolt connecting steering to rack but having trouble removing bolt on driver side by oil pan.

You need to remove the through bolt on the driver side motor mount and jack up that side of the engine to gain enough clearance to remove the bolt. Reinstall the bolts from the bottom to make life easier should you ever have to remove the rack again.

Default Use an electric saw

I unbolted the motor mount and lifted the engine but that didnt work for me.....so...I cut the damn bolt out with an electric reciprocating saw.

Got a new bolt at the junk yard and installed it from the bottom up.

Its a pain in the ***, good luck.

A lot of people will recommend cutting it out with a sawzall. I found that to be a pain in the *** with the bolt moving all around. I took a big *** ratcheting breaker bar and tightened the bolt until the head broke off. I found a replacement bolt at the Home Depot.

yup that's what i did. I have poly mounts and it was a pain in my *** getting the in the 1st time I wasn't going to do that again.
