Default No start issue... but only sometimes.

Hi,

2000 T/A w/manual.

Hopefully I can provide enough details to explain my situation. I find several folks with very similar issues to mine but maybe things are a little bit different in my scenario.

I've been having a no start issue for probably over 1.5 years now. Only recently has it become more severe. Some days it starts right up, other days I run into issues.

Here is the scenario: Turn the key to start, lights come on and nothing else happens. No clicks, no starter movement, no security light, no drama. It's as if I'm just turning the car on without ignition. Here is a photo: https://i.imgur.com/m0JSimz.jpg

(Past 1.5 years) In the past the solution has been: to depress the brake a couple of times.

(Past week) Now, lately, the solution has been: to depress the clutch (out of gear) and brake a few times and eventually it will start up. Sometimes I'm waiting for up to 15 minutes for this to work and I dont even know if doing this actually does anything.

In the past three days, it's been starting up without a hitch but I feel like it will be back soon.

Here's how things look when I finally get it started: https://i.imgur.com/LVtoBo8.jpg

Any help or input is appreciated.

Edit: Updated second image. Thanks!

Very strange, you might want to check the clutch engaged sensor or grounds under the dash. its possible there is a loose ground and when you press the brake pedal the ground is coming and going. Also your second image link is the same as the first.

Get you battery properly load tested as a starting point, also check you battery terminals for corrosion, and check the main ground wire to the car. Also check wires running to starter. If all of these appear good it could just a be a defective PCM, as electronics get older certain conditions such as temperature and humidity can make electronic finicky and fail to work properly or intermidently work .

I'd also check to make sure your ignition switch is mounted securely. It might be loose.

Check fuse named "start" in the engine compartment. could be lose/ bad connection - I had It some years ago. This was exactly what I had: Turn the key to start, lights come on and nothing else happens. No clicks, no starter movement, no security light, no drama. This happened very seldom. But when it happened it was very annoying. Several moth could pass without any issue and the BAM.
Once I fixed the connection between cable , fuse holder and fuse, problem has never occurred anymore.
