1998 camaro will not start

1998 camaro will not start so I went to start my car last week and nothing happened it just clicked and started smoking electrical smoke out from under the hood so I thought I had burnt the starter up so I went and bought a msd dynaforce starter and while I was replacing that I noticed the negative battery cable was melted to my header I replaced that positive side was fine. then I was still unsuccessful. so I went and replaced the battery thinking the other one might have dead cells in it and replaced the starter relay and it still wont start it just clicks one time and that's it what am I missing.
