'99 Z28 - Engine Miss Question
'99 Z28 - Engine Miss Question '99 Z28 M6 - I'm trying to track down a suspected engine miss in my car. If there is a coil going bad or a bad plug or wire, would I see a check engine code associated with it? I do not have any code showing. Thanks.
Do you not have any codes or is your dash light not on? Typically you'd get a misfire code pointing you to the cylinder. (Not all codes will light up the Service Engine light on the dash and have to be manually retrieved.)
My dash light isn't on, and I used my scanner to check for codes. Nothing shows up either way. I thought that I would see a code indicating a miss in a specific cylinder. Thanks.
There are some good videos on YouTube for diagnosing no-code misfires, but you'll need an advanced scanner to track down the offending cylinders and diagnose the components.

Do you have any other symptoms along with the missing? Does the missing immediately clear up if you increase some throttle gradually? If it does you should get a scan to see how the 02 sensors are switching. OBDII scanner.
