Default Need help with Mechman Alternator install

I got a Mechman 250a Elite alternator. The alternator plug has 3 pins in it. It came with an adapter cable with an extra wire to turn on the alternator. The wire is connected to the car side of the adapter, not the alternator side.

Does the factory plug not work with this alternator?

I don't know much about the alternator or even alternators in general. I will say our cars only have 1 wire that goes to the alternator (exciter wire) that is built into a 4 pin plug but 3 of them are empty. Note that the replacement alternators also have 4 pins. So I'm "thinking" you just need to find which pin controls the exciter on the alternator and connect the exciter wire to that pin..or if they gave you a different connector then you'll need to pin the exciter wire into that pin or use a solder to solder it into the wire leading to it... dont quote me for this though. I really dont know for sure.

This is the adapter that came with the alternator. The wire is hanging off of the car side of the adapter, not the alternator side. That is what has me confused. I'm going to call Mechman today and see if I got the right adapter.

I got the answer. The harness is correct. The exciter wire connects on the car side to turn on the alternator AND to turn off the battery light. It has to be connected to an ignition voltage source (12VDC when the key is turned on).

Now I just have to figure out where I want to tap this into the ignition voltage.

Since I also have a wideband O2 that I am installing, I might as well do both at the same time.

Where did you end up going with the blue wire?

You can use any line that is an "ACC" line. Just put a voltmeter on the line, and make sure that it is 0VDC with the ignition off, and constant +12 as soon as the key is switched to "ACC".
I ended up tapping into the passenger side fuel injector + line.

DO NOT USE THE EMISSIONS CANISTER POWER CONNECTION. I thought that looked like ACC, but fluctuated from ACC to START.
