Default Failing alternator?

I drove my 97 Formula somewhere, parked for an hour.

Came back and when I started it up, the volt needle was heading toward 13-14, fell back to 12, then went back to 13-14 and stayed there for the entire ride home.

I'm concerned about that "fall-back to 12 volts" while it was starting up.

If this means my alternator is going to fail, what is the best replacement I can buy?

Thanks!

Jeff

Could it have kicked down to 12 when the A/C kicked on? This is normal and happens this time of year.
