Default Body Control Module

I just recently discovered that my Body Control Module was melted. The computer board overheated and just fried it completely. I disconnected and haven't replaced it yet. I haven't noticed any changes since i removed it. What is its purpose and why do i need to replace it if everything still works?

Everything can't possibly still work... unless you've done a lot of rewiring, it's not actually the BCM that melted, or you're not talking about a 4th generation f-body. The BCM controls the following circuits:
  • power door locks
  • retained accessory power (power windows and radio stay on until a door is opened)
  • courtesy lamps
  • fasten seat belt warning light
  • vehicle anti-theft system (VATS)
  • vehicle content theft protection (optional factory alarm system)
  • rear hatch release
  • security warning light
The big one is VATS - if you haven't bypassed it and rewired the starter relay ground then your car won't start without a BCM. If you haven't rewired the power source for the radio and windows, they won't work without a BCM either. Same thing with power locks, hatch release and courtesy lights.

These are photos of the item I removed. I should have just posted these to begin with. One of my friends told me it was the BCM. Could you possibly tell me what this is and what it controls then? It was located behind the stereo clipped onto the firewall.

I tried sending photos of the item in question. I was hoping you could help identify it for me. I don't see that they we submitted... Am I missing something?

That's not the BCM. It's the Daytime Running Light (DRL) Module.

In that case, the front turn signals will not be working (in addition to the daytime running lights).
