Default How to: Remove Power Steering Pump, the easy way

WITHOUT using a pulley puller.

1. Buy/Obtain 13mm ratcheting wrench
2. Insert it behind the pulley on the pump bolt
3. Loosen 1st bolt enough that you've made progress, but not so much that you are backed up against the backside of the pulley.
4. Loosen 2nd bolt about the same amount.
5. Keep pulling the pump forward as the bolts are loosened evenly back and forth.
6. Done. The bolts are stuck behind the pulley but the pump is off with no special tools required.

I have a see through pulley so you can see where the wrench goes.

This is real easy when you can see through the pulley. I'd like to see (I'm not saying it can't be done.) this done with a solid stock pulley.

I was lucky enough to have the pulley to get the pic. Ive done this about 12 times with stock pulleys. Dimensions are the same for stock vs that aluminum pulley, you just dont get to SEE the wrench go on the bolt. Hence why i took that exact pic. It isnt hard, its never been hard, it never will be hard. Whats hard is letting go of the preconceived notion that you MUST pull the pulley to get the pump off the cylinder head. You don't have to. I hope this thread helps someone. As a side note, I use this route when several times I forget I can just go through the pulley I have, Im so used to doing it this way that it doesnt dawn on me.

Simple with the stock pump pulley also.

Like 01ssreda4 said, no need to take the pulley off to remove pump.

The trick, is figuring out how far you can back the bolt out before the wrench is locked on due to pulley clearance. Slightly annoying at first that you have to go back and forth between the bolts, but still very quick and easy overall.

If the bolts arent in place no. But if you drill holes through the pulley so the bolt can go through yes.
