Default NGK TR55 Plug Gap

I see that most people tend to gap their plugs to .050 inches; is this just a general rule? I'm changing my plugs for the first time this weekend and I was wondering if a .050 inch gap would be right for my car.

Car in question is a 2001 Z28 with JBA Shorty headers, K&N intake and SLP LM1.

I thought they were pregapped at the recommended gap? I have installed a few sets and I have only checked them for consistency and installed them out of the box with no issues. Granted they were put into mildly-modded NA street cars.

I seem to recall the TR55 plug coming with a .059 gap out of the box. Stock gap was .060, but I've gapped the TR55s anywhere between .050 and .060 without seeing any real difference. So usually I just do .055.

Likewise I have gapped mine anywhere from .040 to .060 and never noticed a difference in how the car idled or ran.

I'll probably gap them to .055 inches; since that seems to be right in between the stock .060 and the one that most people tend to do (.050)
