I've seen SO MANY posts from people who have had this same problem, DAMN freaking car won't turn off! Key stuck in accessory mode! Why hasn't GM done something yet? Have had my 2014 at the dealer numerous times, they're finally going to change the shift control, at my expense of course!
My question? Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? Am I wasting $500+ ? And do I really HAVE to replace the shift handle too? Or are screwing me out of an extra $70 + labor?
This guy? If you're a little handy it's not to bad to replace yourself and save some money. Videos available on Youtube. I replaced mine a few months ago because it cracked. Also replaced the ignition cylinder because of a key issue similar to yours but a different symptom. The cylinder is easy to replace yourself.
Used one was $70 and the cylinder was around $15 for a new ACDelco one.
To your other question, you can move the old shift handle to the replacement shift control mechanism. That's what I did.
Just noticed yours is a 2014. Not sure if it being relatively new (and potentially having newfangled technology) adds any complications compared to my '96.
