Default Boiling sound from engine bay

Sometimes I can hear a boiling/bubbling sound from within the cabin after parking the car and turning off the engine. With the hood up, it generally comes from the area on the passenger side of the radiator. When the motor is cool, both the radiator and overflow reservoir are full. I replaced the radiator cap with an ACDelco unit a few months ago, and shortly thereafter developed a water pump leak and had to replace the pump. Water temp gauge show's it's not getting past 210* but I haven't scanned it recently. The only wet spots I find under the car are originating above the passenger side header collectors. Car is running distilled water with Water Wetter, which is the combination I've used for almost 15 years without these symptoms, over multiple motors, radiators & water pumps.

Could it still be the cooling system, or might it be the A/C or something else?

Could be the ac high and low sides equalizing pressure once the compressor stops. If you’ve been running the ac, try going for a drive with the ac OFF and see if the noise stops.

I scanned the car on the way home and 210 on the gauge is about 220 on the scanner. When I parked last night, there was a sizzling sound coming from the radiator cap. Once it cooled, the system was about 1/3 gallon low, most of that was in the recovery tank.

This is an indication of a real problem. If the radiator is full when you check it (after cool down), I'd start with a pressure test for the cap and the system. If the system isn't holding pressure, then you could get some localized boiling.

Do you know if your coolant mix is 50/50?

Not 50/50, since I'm only running distilled & WW. Pressure test shows a slow leak from the radiator, the second Advance Auto Spectre CU1486 radiator I've went through in maybe 3 years. Just started looking for a drop-in replacement radiator that will also be adequate for a future 416/427. Currently considering this combo:

With a leak, this would cause your water to boil before the system overheats.

It sounds like you are on the way to a fix, but I would also make sure you are running the stock low coolant sensor if you are going to stay with just water in the system. If you had not caught this, all that water could have boiled off to a really bad level before your temperature sensor would have started to give you odd readings...

Yes, I use the low coolant sensor, ACDelco has been my preferred brand for OEM electronics.

Is it possible the two small diameter hoses that connect near the cap were put back reversed after you did some work on it? Did that on mine, it made that boiling noise after the engine was turned off, and finally boiled over on a really hot day. The upper one should go to the reservoir, as I recall.
