Default 4th gen evaporator mounting

I wanted to get some opinions about this, so here goes. I'm replacing the majority of the A/C system in my 1995 Camaro. New compressor/evaporator/condenser etc. The problem is the evaporator. It was fun enough getting to it, and then I discovered that the replacement part I have for it doesn't have the mounting holes for the bracket to screw the evaporator down (see attached picture). I searched other options for the part, and bought a different brand (Four Seasons) after pictures showed their part having the mounting holes, but no it doesn't. Customer service has been non-existent and it's a guessing game as to whether the mounting holes are present on the aftermarket stuff. I now wonder if any of the aftermarket parts are correctly made.

Yeah, I could just install the evaporator and forget the bracket, but I don't like not securing something correctly. Nothing else really holds the part in there except friction where it pushes into the engine compartment. The evaporator is made of aluminum, so modifying the bracket and using adhesive is probably not going to hold up. What should I do here? Anyone else have this problem with new evaporators?

I realize this is an older thread... but I wonder if a solution or fully compatible part was found.
I am currently researching info on replacing my system.

Thread isn't that old .

I'm currently working on this. UAC is a no go, and Four Seasons shows the correct stuff but isn't. I suspect that TCW is the same problem. I'm going to be buying a Spectra brand evaporator soon and will see if it's the right design. The pictures are correct, but you never know what you'll get in the mail.

I worry that finding some NOS ACDelco one might be the only correct part.

sorry, i confused your join date with the post date. now i realize this is only a few days old.
where are you buying your products from? I know AMAZ has a lot of counterfeit items being sold as brand names.
Have you been able to contact any of the makers (esp the ones that show the correct picture?) and ask them if their product does have mounting holes?
(however, I know contacting manuf can be easier said than done)

fyi - Just read a review of one of the brands you mentioned...
installed product in a 1994 Camaro Z28
Pros: Arrived in good condition and when I removed the cap/plate with the shipping plugs there was substantial pressure released. This proved the unit was leak free. Also the quality of material and welds look good.
Cons: No bracket on the aft end of the unit like the OEM original. I made a rubber spacer and used the old bracket from the original evap coil to stabilize the new evap coil in the air box. Also the expansion valve would not fit onto the tubing connections of the coil. I had to sand down each tube and still the connection was so tight i had to press the expansion valve on with screws to seat properly. My advice test fit the expansion valve on the coil before you install!

I guess whatever brand you end up with, good advice to test fir the connections as mentioned by the product review.

read on a website that the spectra one they received did not have holes.
they ended up cutting holes, but stated they nearly punctured the coil.

I also read (forget which brand) that someone attempted to drill holes, but found that the bottom was a chamber as well, so now they are attempting to get the holes welded, if that doesnt hold, they will have to buy another.

So if you do attempt to drill holes, make sure you dont drill thru anything important to its function.

Does your evaporator work?
Why are you replacing?
My compressor went, so I was told the entire system should be replaced...but now Im thinking I may end up just flushing the evap.
I am trying to convince myself that the the oriface should have caught any debris before entering the Evap.
Id like to replace it to be sure, but Im not finding too much info out there.

FYI - if you havent already found, I believe the orig part number for your 95 camaro is 52474503, ( for my 99 trans am, different part number, 52477813) , but from comments and reviews seems to have the same issue of the missing mounting holes.
keep the thread updated as to what you end up doing.

thanks

Yeah, it's a stupid problem of some aftermarket not copying all the elements of the original part correctly and all these companies are just selling the same thing.

On the original part, the back plate with the mounting holes is just that...a solid plate. On the UAC one I bought, the back plate is also the outer wall of a cooling tunnel/chamber so you can't drill your own holes.

To your earlier question, I could barely get any response (and it wasn't helpful) from UAC. Four Seasons had no obvious customer service contact and seems to be geared towards dealing with businesses. Spectra got back to me and said they actually aren't making/selling the part anymore, though they are still available. Suggested I contact the seller to ask about the holes. As if Amazon or Rockauto could tell you anything about that.

I don't really want to reuse the old evap because it's 25 years old. I've got all new parts otherwise so I think this should be as well.

Well after buying yet another brand (TYC) and it's the same part, I just gave up on buying the available aftermarket versions. I found a place on eBay selling a few NOS GM/ACDelco evaporators and went with that.
