Default Z28 replacement key not working

Lost keys somehow a couple weeks back. I ended up going to the dealership and having them make me a new key. When I put the key in everything seems normal, i.e. the car dings if the doors open. But the key will not turn whatsoever in the ignition. Thoughts?

The car will do that no matter what key you insert. The cut on your copy is wrong, so you should take it back.

Did they look up the original codes for you or did they just make a mirror image of your other worn key?

I was under the impression that you needed the correct ohm (or resistance) in the chip to interact with the VATS. I believe GM used 15 different ohm chips for our vehicles. Other posters ( in the past) said "you can use an ohm meter on the chip to find out what the resistance is' I guess and then TRY to order a key from the dealer. You state you went to the dealer, you would think they would be aware of this. JMHO

VATS is separate from being able to turn the key. For a VATS problem, the key will turn and then the car just won't crank.

If the key will not turn, there would be a mechanical problem with the key/cylinder. (Either a bad key cut, a worn key, or a bad cylinder.)

... or this also happens when the steering lock is tight. Its always a good idea to try turning the steering wheel a bit to see if that solves this problem.

Very possible that the ignition cylinder was swapped out at some point.

Before going too far I would take a wire brush and rough the key up pretty good. I've had to do that with new keys before. Hopefully that's all it is.

Thanks for the clarification, I did not read the post correctly.
