Cam Sensor Wiring Issue now Computer Issue? I recently bought a 99 Trans Am and am struggling to fix POS342. My scanner reads it as a bad input wire connection from the cam sensor to the ecm. I have replaced the cam sensor as well as the connector but it has not fixed it. At first the tach did not work at all. Now the tach consistently gauge checks but doesnt maintain. I'm getting the hard start issue where it turns over repeatedly before starting with the crank sensor. I was able to tell with a volt meter that I was getting a 12v and a ground but no 5v out of the wires running into the connector. Prior to replacing the wires were damaged when a sloppy job was done on the intake before and the wires got pinched under the manifold.
Edit: The day after rewiring a new connector for the cam sensor the car started running extremely hard. Just about every sensor code started triggering. White smoke from fuel started pouring out the back of the exhaust. The fuel injectors on the drivers side starting staying open constantly. I assume that this is the cause of a bad ecm and I bought a new one. Why would fixing the cam sensor wiring break the computer?

You need to test the wiring. Try the P0342 tutorials on Youtube first to check out the wiring and then report back with how it goes.
