ignition cylinder short?
ignition cylinder short? I think I have a short or bad connection on the ignition cylinder. What I've been noticing lately is that if I open the door with key in the ignition that that some times the door chimes and sometimes it doesn't or it is intermittent. However if I pull the key cylinder back towards the seat the chime goes as normal. However if I push it forward the chime quits. This will also make the dome lights go off and on. So I believe that I must have a pinched wire or a bad connection. Btw the car is an 02 with 30k miles.
What's everyones thoughts? I'm guessing that I'm heading down the path of pulling the wheel to inspect.

Actually fixed this on accident replacing my ignition lock cylinder. Unfortunately you need to dig all the way down behind air bag, steering wheel, and turn signal cam assembly to get to it.
Long story short, the key chime contacts can get surface corrosion over time. Its a little white piece of plastic with 2 copper prongs that are the contacts. Yank it out, clean with electronic cleaner, dry, then shove back in. It is one of the last pieces to remove when replacing the ignition lock cylinder and blocks the cylinder lock retention pin.
Now if I could fix whatever else is wrong with my car after somebody tried stealing it.... these steering columns have a lot of plastic and wiring shoved inside.
