Default Power Steering Bleeding

Hey everyone. I am trying to prepare for a power steering pump replacement job. After the job is done, what adapter do I need for the reservoir to bleed the system of air? I have a hand pump already, just need to know what specific adapter I need to make a good vacuum. 1999 T/A.

Thanks in advance!

Jack the front wheels up, rotate lock to lock a couple of times, center the steering wheel and then wiggle the steering wheel back and forth for about a minute.

Thanks for the information. I had seen this method but also saw some techs use the hand pump technique? Should I be safe just doing this though? As long as I see no more bubbles?

with movement it should bleed itself out, make sure to put the cap on the resevior before you start the car, fluid will fly everywhere if cap is off

I've bled city transit buses (Washington DC Metro) like this and it was fine. You'll be moving the fluid under almost zero pressure (not straining to actually turn the wheel under weight) so the air will escape the system.

These are good methods of bleeding the power steering. I also jack up the front tires then turn the ignition key to the on position and turn the steering wheel lock to lock 40 times with the cap on the reservoir and it always works for me bleeds out all the bubbles in the system👍

More important than bleeding air is flushing all the old fluid out.

jaydubb's method is the way to go. No need to turn the car on or pressurize the pump. The action of turning the wheels does all the work and the rack turns into a low pressure pump for moving fluid through the system for this operation.

If you unhook the reservoir return line and then block off the reservoir return port, you can dump the return line into a bucket or jug and flush all the old fluid out. (Until it runs clear.) Then hook the line back up and then repeat the process to bleed all the air out.

^ Very clean, effective, and you don't risk cavitation in the pump or running it dry through the process. (as you would if you were to turn on the engine)
