Default No high beams

Guys,
Anyone have a diagrams of the column parts needed to make the high beams work? I am having issues and I am not sure what it is, ie lever(everything else for the lever works), column parts, or electrical parts for it?
Any pointers appreciated.

Vince

Good chance it's your switch down on the column. The rod running down the column goes into it. Little bit of a pain to get too. Unbolt the column from the dash and let it fall down some and it makes it easier.

Please post details on your car. For things like headlights, it makes a big difference. (Camaro vs. Firebird vs. Corvette)

I recall that you have a Camaro, so that would take a lot of common issues off the table that afflict the flip up bulbs. I also recall you are working on your steering column. When did your issues start? (If during that job, then zzracer has the first thing to check. There are also details of this mechanism in the Jazzman guide that we linked to in the other steering column threads.)

I have a 96 z28 camaro I bought two month ago and the high beams never worked. I pull the lever and I don’t even hear a click, but I can turn them on by pulling the rod. I am not sure if there are any broken internals ? The turn signals work, hazards & wipers. I do notice that the lever does not return back to it’s original position if I pull it towards me.

Not hearing it click is one more reason to check the switch on the column.

By switch do you mean the lever?

No, there is a rod running down the column into a switch. When you move the arm it pushes the rod into the switch to actuate the switch. The switch is probably broken but I have seen them loose and slide away from the rod enough that it won't work. I would check that first.

Is it the white switch at the bottom?

Here's the document with all the details on the internals of the column: http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w...ck_Rebuild.pdf

I'd check to see if your high beam follower or other pieces there got out of place when you did the tilt pin fix.

It might be the follower, I hope they seek this piece separate. It looks like I’m going to have to take most of it all apart again...
